week 10, day 3: walking with fire

I noticed a helicopter hoovering near the river on my walk today with a bucket attached. It was flying circles and appeared to be dumping something. By the time I got to the end of my walk a small crowd was watching this process of fire management as a brush fire had been started on the opposite side of the river and fire crews as well as the helicopter were dealing with it. By the time I got there it was smouldering, but I saw photos of it and it was pretty big with large flames at one point.

I’m hoping this summer is not full of fires and the resulting shitty air full of ash that I’ve seen happen in the decade I lived here. Both for selfish reasons since it tends to trap me indoors due to my lungs and because raging fires are not good for our environment.

End of the fire. You can see the helicopter to the left of the center and if you zoom in you can even see firefighters in the brush!

week 10, day 2: walk it off

Most the exercises for today were things I can’t do and I could not summon the energy to figure out how to scale them so I walked today.

Another 3 miles. Hiking season is here and this is good for me!

week 10, day 1: Murphy prep is so hard

Holy crap Mondays are the worst right now with this “Murphy Prep.” I’m not planning on doing the Murphy Challenge, but the workouts have been both good for me and really hard for me. I get 75-95% of them done, but very scaled.

Today was no different. I’m not going to sugar coat this. I HATE THIS.

week 9, day 4: failure

Metcon was MURDER today.

Michael got me a cheap wall mirror today (I had asked him to) so I could see my squats and I’m no where near BREAKING PARALLEL like I thought I was.

So with the visual queues from the mirror I tried to ALMOST BREAK PARALLEL for the DB thrusters today and nearly DIED.

But I looked good trying and did not die.

Week 9, day 2: I almost skipped today

I was feeling pretty tired and really didn’t want to do THE STUPID BURPEES even though my version is heavily modified and I start elevated from my bench press bench and jump back and then barely jump up while standing. But I did them, and all the STEP UPS (81 of them!) and all the other things too. I really need to remember to wear a EXTREME SUPPORT bra when burpees are part of the workout. Otherwise I’m impressed I survived this heavily modified workout pretty well.

Also, I upped my deadlight weight and did 5 sets of 5 with 35#. Woot.

Week 9, day 1: my poor limbs

110 squats, 55 wall push ups and 55 ring rows. I’m dead.

Note, these movements were all heavily modified. That being said, I’m still dead.

Week 8, day 3: May the 4th Be With You 5k

Week 8, day 3: May the 4th Be With You 5k, done.

This was my workout for the day. Now I drink!

Week 8, day 2: pushing through it

Didn’t think I was going to make it through today’s workout. Dead-bugs from yesterday left my abs sore, down-dog to up-dog in the warm up stretched those abs out in a painful and needed way, but also are still pretty hard for me since I don’t have my full upper body strength back yet.

Then there was STRENGTH which did feel so hard. I added 5# to my dead-lifts for a total of 25# and the lateral box step overs I did with 8# DB. So far so good!

But the METCON felt brutal for some reason. A total of 60 each of DB thrusters, box step overs and ring rows. Those thrusters really tired me out and I had to scale down to 5# from 8# after the first 10.

But I did it all. And that’s something to be proud of.

Side note: I’ve decided to just count how many weeks I’m on for this program even though this is a different round of workout I’m not going to break it up like that.

Today required a lot of gear to get through the workout.

Take 2, week 2, day 1: aka day 1 of week 8 getting my ass kicked into shape

Last night I was thinking to myself as I went to bed that everything hurt and I was surprised that my body still hasn’t acclimated to what I’m trying to get it to do.

Today I did 100 squats and 100 heavily modified push ups. I lifted 20# over my head in a strict press 15 times. I cooled down with on the recumbent bike for 30 minutes.

I am doing hard work like this five days a week. But I also haven’t done much for the last year so it makes sense that it’s gonna take time for my body to acclimate.

I have lost absolutely zero pounds, which is fine for now because I know muscle weighs more than fat and I’m building muscle. That can be a little bit frustrating to not see any progress, but I was reminded that this is about more than a number on a scale and SIZE DOES MATTER. I compared my measurements today to my starting measurements and I’m super stoked right now.
Since I started over 7 weeks ago I’ve lost 2″ off my bust, which is fine because who needs that? Not this girl!

And I’ve also lost a between 2-3 inches off my hips. I feel like my measurements were wonky my first time, but I’m definitely loosing inches and getting stronger than was when I started.

Also, alternating arm dead bugs bugs are fucking hard. They may be harder than a 100 squats. They definitely hurt more.
